Henry Ford once said, "The only thing worse than training employees and letting them go is not training them and keeping them." How right the American automotive pioneer still is today. Employees need to be trained and educated. And this is not because they are incapable from the outset, but because it sets them on the path to better performance.
This year at VDE we were able to convince two new people of our mission and we are looking forward to the journey together with Seenujan and Joao. Joao already started with us in spring and Seenujan joined us this week.
Both have completed their apprenticeship as draftsman EFZ specializing in civil engineering and now support the VDE team in the field of building surveying and 3D BIM modeling.
Application directly on the job In order to be prepared for the new challenges in a timely manner, our surveying manager Livio introduces you to his universe of surveying. Here he focuses on the practical application of technology directly on the job.
When you get right down to it, on-the-job training is the most original form of knowledge transfer - long before there were schools. The training is close to practice, so that the new knowledge can be put into practice directly. After a few dry runs in and around the office, it's straight on to the first project.
New perspectives and ideas A big advantage of new employees is their free and uninfluenced view on existing processes. Thus, not only the employee benefits from new skills and know-how, but also the company gains one of the most valuable feedbacks there is in our opinion. We motivate our new employees to openly and honestly question the existing processes and implement the findings directly into our workflow.
Fresh employees train new employees Another method we use is that fresh employees train the new employees. In this case, Joao already takes some responsibility in training Seenujan. This way the knowledge of the trainee is refreshed and strengthened and he can put himself very well in the role of the trainee as he was in this situation himself a few weeks ago.
First impressions Now we want to let our two new team members have their say. Joao describes how he felt the last months and Seenu how he imagines the new work area in surveying.
